Starting an internet business can be as hard as opening up a store front business. The reason for this stems from the fact that the competition on the internet can be just as fierce, as the competition on the street. Hence, even though you may open an business online, it will be several months before people are coming consistently to your website. Hence natural and random traffic will be low and as a result your sales will also be low or even non existent to begin with.

Well, there are some actions that you can take to speed up your traffic building. While some of these actions may be free, some of them will cost you money. However, you must remember that a business requires some investment and thus the money you spend today will get back to you as traffic and as converted sales later.

1) Make sure that you get your website registered with as many web directories as possible. Even though this process will take time to succeed, the faster that you do this will mean that faster your sites will be recognized and indexed by the search engines. In addition ensure that you add the URL of your websites to the three big search engines as soon as possible.

2) There are many websites that allow you to post free advertisements on the internet. Do avail yourself of them as each ad will allow you to have a link to your website and it will have a positive result on your back link numbers in the long run.

3) Use pay per click advertising to generate initial traffic. Especially the Google Adwords is a good program that can get you focused and targeted traffic to your website. However, although you will have a steady traffic coming in this will not guarantee you sales and I find the quality of readers inferior. But at the least you will get some exposure for your website and some of those visitors may come back after some time.

4) Try to use paid placement advertisement to get you some traffic. These paid place advertisements can be placed on variety of websites and you will have to contact the webmaster of each site to get a price. However, this can help to increase your traffic and the exposure of your site.

5) There are some websites that work to sell you traffic. You can sign up on these websites and pay some amount for 1000 clicks or 5000 clicks etc. Having an extra 1000 visitors per month can be very stimulating for your website.
